J. River Media Center is MP3 software that helps you keep track of audio and video files and images. You can also listen to the radio online through this software. Some of the features require time to learn how to use, however, including the Database Expressions.Music Management
J. River Media Center automatically scans your hard drive for compatible files, but it doesn't discriminate regarding which files it gathers and where it puts them within the application. This can be of frustrating, especially if you have many files. This MP3 software automatically updates your library when you add new files to your computer, which is handy.
This software has trouble identifying podcasts that are already stored on your hard drive. J. River Media Center takes you instead to an online directory to help you subscribe to new podcasts. This MP3 software is compatible with some portable devices, including iPods, SanDisk players and Creative brand products. J. River Media Center has an integrated tool that allows you to search online for album art and lyrics. This music organizing software allows you to edit the tags that accompany the files.
J. River Media Center has in-depth filtering and search features through its Database Expressions. One task you can use this for is finding album art for all your music. The only downside is that it can take some time to learn how to use the Database Expressions feature.
Music Player
J. River Media Center has DSP Studio and playback options. These allow extreme sound customization, including eliminating silence between tracks and altering how quickly tracks fade out. This music organizing software also has Party and Jukebox modes. You can create playlists with this MP3 software. J. River Media Center also provides Smartlists, or auto-generated playlists. These Smartlists only contain eight filters, though, which include filters for top-ranked songs and recently imported files.
A neat but impracticable feature is the 3D Albums filter under the Audio category. This allows you to browse through 3D renderings of your albums covers and to click-and-drag them to organize your albums' cover art. If you hover over a cover, it will revolve like a block. On the other side, you'll find a list of all the tracks on the album so you can choose which song to play.
Help & Support
We couldn't find an email address or phone number for tech support. We did find a telephone number for corporate sales though. You'll find the most help through the manufacturer's forum. The forum has FAQs, a knowledgebase, links to other sites and a center for developers. There's also a wiki where you can upload your own tips, tricks and solutions if you want.
Ease of Use
For the most part, J. River Media Center is easy to navigate and operate. However, Database Expressions is complicated to use. The Services & Plug-ins features require time for you to learn as well. You have to go through many steps to access these features.

1. Changed: Clarified the new license restore system when using a license code purchased from a reseller (instead of directly from JRiver).
2. Fixed: Converting multiple videos at one time with the format converter would crash.
3. Changed: Switched the default start page to jriver.com/start.html (program uses 'Playing Now' when Internet is not available; custom start pages in 'Custom Webpages\Start' still supported).
4. Fixed: If a new library failed to load on a configuration with only one library, it could lead to a crash.
